8:40AM - Wuthering Heights

But this I know; the writer who possesses the creative gift owns something of which he is not always master - something that at times strangely wills and works for itself. He may lay down rules and devise principles, and to rules and principles it will perhaps for years lie in subjection; and then, haply without any warning of revolt, there comes a time when it will no longer consent to 'harrow the vallies, or be bound with a band in the furrow' - when it laughs at the multitude of the city, and regards not the crying of the driver - when, refusing absolutely to make ropes out of sea-sand any longer, it sets to work on statue-hewing, and you have a Pluto or a Jove, a Tisiphone, or a Psyche, a Mermaid or a Madonna, as Fate or Inspiration direct. Be the work grim or glorious, dread or divine, you have little choice left but quiescent adoption. As for you - the nominal artist - your share in it has been to work passively under dictates you neither delivered nor could question - that would not be uttered at your prayer, nor suppressed nor changed at your caprice. If the result be attractive, the World will praise you, who little deserve praise; if it be repulsive, the same World will blame you, who almost as little deserve blame.

-Charlotte Bronte, 1850 preface to Wuthering Heights

I'm four pages in, and Heathcliff wears Snape's face most of the time. *love*

2:26PM - Fic rec

The Interview, by oddsbobbs (Lani), PG, Remus-centric gen with mention of past SB/RL, written pre-DH, 5,756 words.

After the war, the Ministry has a few questions to ask. Unfortunately for Inquisitor McNealy, the person to be interviewed has a few accounts to settle.

I do not think you quite understand what exactly is going on today.

Went apple picking with Mom and two brothers today. Much fun, and the orchard's apple donuts are even better than the place we normally get them. Yummy. I brought home two pecks of Jonathan apples, the very best (IMnsHO) for pie. The McIntoshes weren't ready yet, and the Granny Smiths won't be until next month. Pie-making to commence shortly.

Fandom Forums has gone live, people!

This is the site that justsonya's been putting together for the past three weeks, and she's made it so much more than I ever expected.

Sonya is deeply involved in manga fandoms as well as Harry Potter, so she'll be the last person to ToS people for posting chan or other adult material. This site is for us, and it's fantastic!

My blog there is here, but you'll have to be registered and logged in, or the link won't work. I've posted a couple tutorials to help new users navigate the site as well.

I'm ridiculously proud of the layout, btw. *g*

7:42AM - Ouchiness

You know all those fics featuring unlubricated (anal) sex in water? [info]galerian_ash posted a question about it in [info]little_details, and the answers were a little scary, particularly the last one.

A summary of the comments: Not a good idea. )

I'm getting headache. Ouch. I think I've discovered a new squick.

You know you're screwed when your alarm goes off and you ignore it, thinking you'll just steal a few hours with the time-turner later.

Ages and ages ago, when I was in an rpg, we used a bit of code to make GJ's ads go away. Does anyone know what that is, and what the link for the command console you entered it in is? I think it's called the command console, but I'm not sure.

Thanks!

ETA: All better. [info]faynia is awesome!

3:45PM - Snupin Recycler Challenge: An Open Door, NC-17

Title: An Open Door.
Authors: [info]curiousqity, f.k.a. [info]goldennotblonde, cowritten with [info]_lore.
Rating: NC-17.
Pairing: SS/RL.
Challenge: Lupin/Snape Recycler challenge. [info]_lore’s excerpt may be found here.
Summary: The party tonight was meant not only to celebrate the holidays, but to welcome Lupin back to the land of the living after being nearly torn apart keeping Greyback from Potter during the final confrontation with the Dark Lord's forces. Severus found that now that there weren't any large, burly squibs between him and Lupin, he was not inclined to seek the other man out any longer.
Disclaimer: Harry Potter and Co. are the creation of J.K.Rowling.
Warnings: PWP, semi-public sex, and some D/s.
Notes: Beta'ed with the utmost patience by [info]summerborn and [info]inkgeist. Credit for the title goes to [info]inkgeist. Thanks also to the wonderful people at [info]hp_britglish for their very helpful replies to my many questions. 3,181 words. Feedback is love.

3:44PM - Whole

Title: Whole
Author: [info]goldennotblonde
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Harry/Remus (post-Hogwarts)
Warnings: Cross-generational, bondage (consensual), slight D/s, rimming, CBT (orgasm denial).
Disclaimer: Harry Potter is so not mine. I'll give him back later.
Summary blurb: The relationship between Harry and Lupin has always been strictly "vanilla," but the traumatic results of a DMLE mission gone awry prompt them to employ methods they would not otherwise have considered.
Note 1: This is not a BDSM fic, although hopefully it is sexy in the same way. It plays with the ambiguities present in consensual D/s situations. Who is the dominant party, and who is the submissive? A dom has power because the sub gives it to them.
Note 2: Thanks to my wonderful betas - [info]seventines (also britpicker!), and [info]gblvr, without whom this fic would not be half what it is. You ladies rock my world.

10:01PM - McGonagall Paintover

Okay! Finally finished. Much thanks to the wonderful people at [info]artbeta - [info]nassima, [info]moondog, and [info]lyntek. *hugs comm* You guys are the best. Lyn tells me this is called a paintover. I'm still not happy with her neck, but I couldn't figure out how to make it sag with only my tiny skills. Feedback is like chocolate, feed me. Please?

Original photo and McGonagall, G-rated portrait (totally worksafe):

Uma Thurman ) Minerva McGonagall )

This began as just an avatar for an RPG (illustrating these drabbles for my application). Yah. Right. So that's why it's not bigger than it is (314x479 pixels), that's the size of the original photo I was working with, and I couldn't make it any bigger without pixelating it, but if you really want to see the big version with all the details, it's here. It will pop back to screen size once it's loaded, but just go to the arrowy thing in the corner to enlarge it. Warning for those with slow connections: it's big! 628x958 pixels big.

3:33PM - Two Untitled McGonagall Drabbles

Character(s): McGonagall
Words: 134
Notes: n/a

I received my Hogwarts letter during the early years of the Great Depression. Don't look at me like that, it was an economic Muggle thing, a famine, if you will. There was no money for luxuries like toys, but we made do. I dreamed of flight. My peers thought I was most mad, of course, playing at flying. I knew nothing of magic at the time. My hero was Amelia Earhart - the one who flew across the Atlantic in a Muggle aircraft, yes, that one - and dissappeared during the summer before my seventh year in a flight over the Pacific. The Muggles never did figure out what had become of her, but the quidditch fans were very glad to have her back.

~

Character(s): McGonagall
Words: 208
Notes: Set after the second war, McGonagall is Headmistress. She lost her fiance in 1944 to the war with Grindelwald.

The platform above McGonagall's office was one of the highest peaks in Hogwarts castle. Minerva leaned on the mossy stone parapet, tea in hand as she watched one of her students spiral up into the dawn, letting out a distant, joyful whoop as his broom arrowed through the streaked sky until it was nearly vertical. He hung for a breathless moment at the top of his arc - while gravity debated what to do with him - then plummeted toward the earth, twisting to pull the broomstick under his body, lying flat along its length, his calves gripping the twigs.

Minerva forced herself to breathe again. She had executed the same stunt herself countless times, had she not? It wasn't the same, just watching. The joy of it had not diminished for her through the years, she had merely become... distracted. She longed to be out there among her students, revelling in the feeling of absolute freedom in flight, swooping in heady dives and ready shouts of laughter after a shyly smiling boy with curling dark hair in a mad game of tag that went on forever.

Her tea was cold. She tossed the liquid over the edge and turned toward the stairs - and the coming day.

3:31PM - Stone Soup

Title: Stone Soup
Author: goldennotblonde
Rating: PG-13 for reference to sex
Pairing: Lupin/Snape (suggested Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione)
Summary: Christmas at Grimmauld Place in Harry's sixth year, Snape's PoV.
Disclaimer: Harry Potter and co. is the sole intellectual property of J. K. Rowling, I'm just borrowing them.
Notes: This is set after "Wolfsbane," in the same fic universe, but can stand on it's own as an 'established relationship' RL/SS piece in Harry's sixth year. Another line is stolen from Tamora Pierce's amazing work. "Stone Soup" is a reference to a many-times-over illustrated children's book in different versions, classed in the same genre as the perhaps equally renowned "Little Red Hen" story. Huge thanks to the wonderful people at [info]hp_britglish for their inspiration, help and patience with my questions, and for making me see that not everyone takes popcorn for granted.

3:28PM - Changes, Part 1

Title: Changes
Author: [info]goldennotblonde
Rating: PG-13?
Pairing: Remus/Sirius
Warnings: Violence, a little gore.
Summary: AU diverging in PoA, Remus spends the full moon after Halloween in the Shrieking Shack and has an unwelcome visitor.
Disclaimer: Harry Potter and co. are the creation of J. K. Rowling, not me.
Author notes: Rowling's universe sometimes seems to be ruled by Murphy's Law, where the worst that can happen, does happen. So while I feel she would never be so kind as to write anything like this, I wanted to write it, just because I wanted to see it and make it plausible. Here's hoping I've come close. One of the lines is stolen and adapted from Tamora Pierce's 'Alanna,' one of my favourite books, even over Harry Potter. *Ducks flying tomatoes*. Chocolate if you know which. Feedback and concrit are very welcome. The first is like candy and the second helps me make better fic for you! ETA: annoying musebabble has been moved to the comments of this post. 14,058 words total.

3:25PM - For Certain Sure, Remus/Sirius, PG

Been lurking on [info]lupin100 for a while, thought I'd finally try my hand at this drabble-for-challenges thing.

Title: For Certain Sure
Pairing: Remus/Sirius
Challenge: lupin100 #6 -- First Kiss
Words: 108

Remus was certain he would never forget the day Sirius discovered his secret, all nervous looks and fidgeting hands. Sirius had been a mere thirteen awkward years old, but he'd owned his heart from that moment on, whether he'd known it or not. Remus suspected he did.

The day Sirius kissed him, Remus was certain of only one thing. He would never find out if he was (what were they calling it?), gay, or bi, or any other name, because he would never love another as long as he lived.

The day after Sirius betrayed them, Remus wasn't sure what he knew, because it had all been wrong.

3:22PM - Wolfsbane

Title: Wolfsbane
Author: [info]goldennotblonde
Rating: NC-17.
Pairing: Lupin/Snape
Warnings: Explicit slash.
Summary: Sequel to Aloe Vera and Honeysuckle.
Notes: [info]lyntek made me art for Honeysuckle! *hugs* Huge thanks to [info]chaos_rose for kindly allowing me to reference her AU Untitled fic for the dream. It's an incredible [insert incoherent babbling here] fic, but be warned, it's a deathfic, and it will make you cry. An info page for borage is here, and pictures are googled here. One of the lines in this instalment is stolen from Tamora Pierce's Alanna, which I love even over Harry Potter. *Ducks flying tomatoes.* Ew, that one was rotten, who threw that? Chocolate if you can tell me which is the quote. Please review, if only to tell me you read the fic. Thanks! X-posted just about everywhere.

10:28PM - Aloe Vera

Title: Aloe Vera
Author: [info]goldennotblonde
Rating: PG, to be safe.
Pairing: Lupin/Snape
Warnings: Slash, nothing explicit, only implied.
Summary: Sequel to Honeysuckle.
Notes: I was found guilty of writing a cliffhanger in Honeysuckle, therefore I repent me of that crime and offer you this. I can only say that I am getting to the real smut... eventually. Next story, next story! The variety of Honeysuckle referred to in the previous story is Lonicera periclymenum, also known as 'Woodbine,' or 'European Honeysuckle.' Many thanks to the kind people at [info]hp_britglish for their suggestions, comparisons, and wonderfully detailed information on species found in the UK. Thanks also [info]maeglinyedi and [info]theladyfeylene, who helped me out with OotP details when I got stuck. Please review, if only to tell me you read the fic. Thanks!
